Tom Dick and Harry Mountain

Mirror Lake Trail to the ridge viewpoint

Round-Trip Distance7.4 mi
TerrainForest, Cirque Lake & Rocky Ridge

The Route

The Mirror Lake route climbs through forest to the lake, then continues onto the rocky Tom Dick and Harry ridge.

  1. Mirror Lake TrailheadThe modern trailhead is beside Skibowl West.
  2. Forest SwitchbacksThe trail climbs toward the glacial cirque.
  3. Mirror LakeThe ridge trail leaves the lake's southwest corner.
  4. Upper SlopeA narrower trail crosses the forested mountainside.
  5. Ridge ViewpointThe final section is steep and rocky.

Forest Approach to Mirror Lake

The current Forest Service description gives 1.9 miles and 460 ft of gain from the modern trailhead to Mirror Lake. This lower trail is wider than the upper ridge trail and reaches a lake occupying a glacially eroded cirque.

Lake Loop or Ridge Branch

A separate 0.4-mile path circles the lake. The ridge itinerary leaves the lake's southwest corner and continues another 1.8 miles across the slope. Adding a full lake circuit changes the 7.4-mile out-and-back reference distance.

Upper Ridge Viewpoint

The route above the lake enters Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness and becomes narrower and rougher. The final 200 yards are described as steep and rocky, ending at a Cascade Range viewpoint on the ridge rather than another lakeside location.

Winter Trail Marking

The trail is used for winter recreation, but the Forest Service says winter signs and blue-diamond markers are not installed. A summer trail description and a snowy winter itinerary therefore do not provide the same visible route cues.

Modern Mirror Lake Approach

The relocated trailhead beside Skibowl West starts on paved switchbacks and a bridge over Camp Creek. Beyond Mirror Lake, the mountain trail climbs to the western rocky viewpoint; continuing to the other named summits changes the itinerary.
