Samish Overlook Approach
The Samish Overlook start first follows the Pacific Northwest Trail downhill, losing about 190 feet before joining the Samish Bay Connector. The climb then passes second-growth alder, western redcedar and Douglas fir, with creek crossings, boulders and a rock wall along the forested approach. This start differs from the longer Chuckanut Drive approach.
Junction & Promontory
Near the Lily and Lizard Lakes junction, the Oyster Dome branch leaves the lake route and climbs toward the rock promontory. After a creek crossing, the forest opens onto views of Samish Bay, the San Juan Islands and the Skagit flats. Return retraces the same trail, including the final climb back to Samish Overlook that reverses the initial descent.
