- Falls ViewpointsShort upper loop
- Barnes Point ReturnSame lower approach
Lake Crescent Approach
The falls trail begins near Storm King Ranger Station at Lake Crescent, with another connection from Lake Crescent Lodge. The approach passes through lowland old-growth forest toward Barnes Creek. This is the short waterfall outing, not the much longer Barnes Creek route or the steep branch toward Storm King's viewpoint.
Falls Branch & Return
The common Barnes Creek–Marymere approach reaches the falls junction about 0.7 mile from the start. The waterfall branch adds about 0.2 mile, climbing to views of Falls Creek dropping into a narrow ravine. The Mountaineers describes the falls-only route as 1.8 miles round trip with 200 feet of gain. The return rejoins the same forest approach rather than continuing upstream on Barnes Creek.
Terrain Along the Route
An old-growth forest approach leads over creek bridges to the final stair-and-viewpoint loop.
Falls-only itinerary: The Mountaineers lists 200 ft gain and an 820 ft endpoint. WTA lists different figures (500 ft and 1,100 ft); the two references disagree. Reference Set: 2026-10-23.
