Sunrise & Sourdough Ridge

The normal outing starts on the north side of Sunrise's parking area at about 6,400 feet. A short climb reaches Sourdough Ridge, then the trail travels west through meadow and rocky terrain toward Frozen Lake. The five-way junction there separates Mount Fremont from the Burroughs Mountain and other Sunrise-area routes.

Rocky Traverse & Lookout

Beyond Frozen Lake, the Mount Fremont trail traverses the west side of a rocky ridge for about 1.3 miles to the historic fire lookout. The endpoint overlooks Grand Park to the north, with views of Rainier and the Cascades. Return retraces the same ridge route. NPS lists no camps along the outing and prohibits camping at or around the lookout; pets and fires are also prohibited.

Terrain Along the Route

Open alpine trail leads to the rocky lookout ridge beyond Frozen Lake.
