Cold Springs & Morrison Creek

The summit approach leaves the old Cold Springs camp area and follows the former roadbed to the Round the Mountain Trail junction. The climbing route continues toward Morrison Creek below the Crescent Glacier remnants rather than following the contouring trail around the mountain.

Crescent Ridge & Lunch Counter

Beyond Morrison Creek, the route gains the ridge and the snowfield above Crescent Glacier. The guide distinguishes lower upper-snowfield camps around 9,050 ft from Lunch Counter around 9,400 ft. Those elevations describe camp zones, not a current water or snow guarantee.

False Summit & Main Summit

The south-spur climb reaches the false summit at 11,657 ft before the main summit. The itinerary then continues north-northwest toward the summit formation and onto its broad top; the final walk to the old lookout and summit is about 200 yards.

Trailhead Facilities

South Climb Trailhead has two parking areas in the old Cold Springs Camp, vault toilets and picnic tables but no potable water. Its steep, narrow road has sharp switchbacks and is not for RVs or trailers.
